“We’re a work in progress. We are not perfect. We’re not role models, but we want you guys to know if God can work through us,” DeFord said, “he can work through you.”

Alisa DeFord Explains Why She Worked as an Escort After Marrying Jelly Roll

DeFord discussed why she continued to work as an escort even after she married Jelly Roll.

“My biggest thing, if you read the book, you will learn that I never would let anybody take my independence,” DeFord said. “And it didn’t matter who you were. I was going to choose how I made money over your feelings, and that was a terrible way to look at things, but that was my hyper-independence from my childhood I had been through.”

“I wanted to work alongside him and build with him. I didn’t want to just completely depend on him, because what would happen if the shoe dropped?” she said.

DeFord said the night they were married, Jelly Roll told her, “You won’t have to do this forever.”

“That’s cute,” she recalled saying at the time. She said she now realizes he really meant it.
