Terry Crews: We Needed To ‘Take a Stand’
After Terry Crews admitted his longtime porn addiction, the media coverage and “gossip fest” was intense. But he realized his marriage was much more valuable than his acting career. “The only thing that’s unconditional is love,” said Crews, who was determined to earn back his wife’s trust. That honesty and authenticity boosted his career, he said, because Hollywood realized he was “a real person,” not just an image.
Crews also talked about his #MeToo admission of sexual assault. He faced the emotional and financial ordeal of a lawsuit, he said, because “we got to take a stand” for all people who are victimized. “God stood up for us,” added Crews, noting that people later hired him because they knew he had risked everything.
“God was leading us,” Crews said. “You don’t know where God is taking you, but you got to be willing.”
Rebecca King-Crews told Lecrae the trials she faced became the “bedrock” of her ministry. “You don’t choose your cross or your resurrection,” she said. “It chooses you.” Terry became the man she prayed for—the “new man” God had promised.
“God told me a long time ago… ‘You exist to show what’s possible,’” said Terry. He pointed out that nobody will remember his football plays, his movies, or his TV shows, but they’ll always remember the legacy of his faith and marriage. “This is forever,” said Terry.
