“You know, my Hollywood career really got rolling after I had sort of given it over to the Lord,” Heaton answered. “And so I realized he’s who I have to please, not anybody else.”

“And so when certain things came up—like to be a pro-life Catholic actress in Hollywood, right, like, they take away your lady card, you know?” she said. “I have to answer to God. That’s the only person I’m going to answer to. And, as I said, I have a healthy fear of the Lord.”

“So,” said Heaton, “I need to stand up for what’s right and for human life and for human rights. I see it as a human rights issue really.”

Heaton said that when she is struggling with challenges in her life, she focuses on surrendering her problems to God. “Just really give it to God…just talk to him about those things that you’re struggling with,” she said.

“Admit your own failures. If I’m just minding my own business, reading the newspaper, as we old people still do,” she said, “and I’ll just see some show is on and I’m not in it and it comes up, and then I have to say, ‘Lord, forgive me for just even having a feeling about this.”

“And you just give it over and then you got to let it go,” said Heaton. “It’s like that saying, ‘A bird can fly over your head; just don’t let ‘em make a nest in your hair.’ Don’t let that thing land. Give it to the Lord.”

“Those thoughts are going to come and go,” she said. “This is the condition we’re in in this life. Give it over to God. He wants to take it. He continues to take it on the cross, right?”

“There’s so many things in your daily life we can use in our Christianity, in our Catholicism,” she said, “to take the terrible things and make them redeeming things.”
