President Trump Calls Suspected Gunman ‘Sick’
In a “60 Minutes” interview Sunday (April 26), President Trump told correspondent Norah O’Donnell he had read the manifesto and found the suspect to be smart but “sick.” Trump described the suspect as a Christian who “had a lot of anti-Christian rhetoric.” Allen, he noted, allegedly attended a No Kings protest in California and belonged to a left-wing group called the Wide Awakes.
Regarding the alleged motive, Trump denied being a rapist or pedophile. The president, who called O’Donnell “disgraceful,” said assassins target “consequential presidents” and then listed his accomplishments. Trump, who said he hopes the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner is rescheduled soon, spoke about the “tone of unity” he felt at the beginning of Saturday’s event.

When O’Donnell asked how the president can “change the trajectory” of political violence in America, Trump cited the “very dangerous…hate speech of the Democrats.” In July 2024, then-candidate Trump survived an assassination attempt at a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania. Two months later, authorities thwarted an assassination attempt at Trump’s Florida golf course.
