Duren continued:

We see how they lament the decline in teen baptisms without even realizing that the apathy towards injustice is exactly what drives teens away from their churches in droves. We are sick of the pageantry of church, the focus always being pointed on what the SBC is doing in other parts of the world without focusing on what they are (or in most cases, are not) doing for their own congregations and communities.

Duren acknowledged that she cannot speak for all of her peers. But her viewpoint is worth considering as the SBC faces a steep decline in membership and has seen several recent departures from high-profile leaders over some of the very issues she mentions. 

The inconsistencies she listed, said Duren, “are exactly what drove me away from the SBC and I know that I can’t speak for every person but I have a feeling until we see a Church that reflects the Gospel fully and fights FOR every person, you won’t see many of us coming back.”
