Magic Johnson Credits God for Strength, Guidance Three Decades After HIV Diagnosis

During the past few years, Johnson and Bishop Blake have worked on an initiative to support and equip Black men. They’ve also partnered to build the West Angeles Family Life Center, a facility that will offer numerous resources to inner-city families. In 2019, Johnson said of Blake, “I share his vision and want to just work with him and for him to see how we can improve the community.”

Other initiatives Johnson champions include food resources, wellness, and mental health. In addition to his church work and philanthropy, the basketball legend is a successful investor and businessman. But he makes sure to acknowledge the true champion. “Now when I go speak to corporations,” Johnson says, “I lead off by praising the Lord.” He adds, “You can touch somebody else to praise the Lord.”
