For Wahlberg, discipline looks like a variety of practices, including spending time with God in prayer or “thoughtful reflection.”

Wahlberg says his faith is central to his life, but he tries not to “force it” on anyone, not even his four kids. Instead, he tries to model his faith to his children. And even though speaking about his beliefs is not popular in his industry, he will not hide his convictions. “It’s a balance,” he said. “I don’t want to jam it down anybody’s throat, but I do not deny my faith. That’s an even bigger sin.”

Those seeking structure for their faith practices this Lent can join Wahlberg in the #Pray40 challenge on the Hallow app, a Catholic app that facilitates prayer and meditation. Cast members from “The Chosen” partnered with Hallow last Christmas to lead users in an Advent prayer challenge.

Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus in “The Chosen,” starts off the first day of the Lenten #Pray40 challenge with a Litany of Humility. Other days of the challenge focus on fasting, resisting temptation, and doing works of mercy. Wahlberg leads the fasting challenges every Friday except for Good Friday during #Pray40.
