Actor Alan Ritchson Doesn’t Understand Why Christians Support Trump—‘Trump Is a Rapist and a Con Man’

Trump has recently lost two civil cases, resulting in multimillion dollar judgments against him. In May 2023, a jury awarded E. Jean Carroll $5 million after it concluded that Trump had sexually assaulted and defamed her. In January, a second defamation trial resulted in a $83.3 million judgment against Trump.

In New York, a court ruled that Trump and his associates had committed real estate tax fraud and fined Trump $464 million. Trump is currently appealing the decision.

Trump faces criminal charges in several other cases. 

Nevertheless, support for Trump among evangelicals remains strong, and Trump often frames his reelection campaign in spiritual terms. In a pair of social media posts published during Holy Week, Trump compared his legal battles to the salvific sufferings of Christ and promoted a Bible bound together with America’s founding documents.

“Religion and Christianity are the biggest things missing from this country, and I truly believe that we need to bring them back and we have to bring them back fast,” Trump said in promotion of the “God Bless the U.S.A.” Bible. “We love God, and we have to protect anything that is pro-God.”
