Controversial street preacher David Grisham shared video this week from inside a Wisconsin Subway restaurant, where an employee acknowledged she was refusing to serve him and three other men. The group, who traveled to the Republican National Convention from Texas, were wearing T-shirts with messages such as “Homo Sex Is Sin, Romans 1” and “Abortion Is Murder.”

Now some Christians are urging Subway to respond; others are threatening to boycott the fast-food chain. “Christophobic bigotry should not be tolerated,” Grisham wrote on Facebook. “Please give Subway corporate a call.”

David Grisham Refused Service at Subway

A 30-second video circulating on social media shows Grisham and his companions trying to order sandwiches at a Subway in Waunakee, Wisconsin. When one man asks a female employee, “Are you refusing to serve customers?” she nods. The person filming the encounter says, “I want her to say it again.” The woman then replies, “I am refusing you service.”

When asked for a reason, she says, “This is a personal matter.” A man then asks, “Because of my T-shirt?”—to which the employee says, “Yes.” Before the video ends, a man says, “Subway Corp will love to hear that.”

Although each Subway franchise is individually owned, angry comments are appearing on the fast-food chain’s social media accounts. “You allow your 3rd grade educated workers to deny service [because] the customer was a Christian? How woke of you,” someone wrote. Another commented, “Absolutely disgusting!!! I will never eat in a Subway again.”

Conservative columnist Todd Starnes wrote, “Now, if a member of the Alphabet community had gone to a local bakery and demanded they make a wedding cake—and the baker denied service—well that would become a national news story.” He was referencing Colorado baker Jack Phillips, a Christian who became embroiled in lawsuits after refusing to create a cake for a same-sex wedding.

“Maybe it’s time for Christians to start playing hardball with companies that discriminate against people of faith,” Starnes added. “After you turn the other cheek, I’d say it’s time for the gloves to come off.”

Street Preacher David Grisham Uses ‘Unconventional’ Approach

Not all the comments on social media support Grisham and his group. “I always find it hilarious when people such as yourselves, purposely try to antagonize people for a reaction,” someone wrote. “You are not a Christian in any way shape or form.”

Another person commented, “I would rather have some radical love exhibited in Christ’s name around here in Waunakee than have a traveling road show of provocateurs come stumbling [through].”
