“When he hits ya, you know it,” Rich told Carlson. “You cannot mistake when the Lord slaps you upside the head with something, you have a physical reaction to it. I do.” When Carlson asked if Rich felt he was “channeling” the song, Rich said, “I felt like he slammed it right through me.”
The singer said he asked God what God wanted him to do with the song, “and the message I felt coming back to me was, ‘Take it all the way to the mat,’” meaning make it the best he could and tell as many people as possible, without fear.
“I didn’t come up with the song,” said Rich. “I did not lay out some marketing strategy for the song. I was given instructions as to what to do with it.”
Rich said that his new single is competing with singles from Eminem, who just released the album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).” Song titles on that album include, “Evil,” “Lucifer” and “Antichrist.”
“How crazy is that?” Rich asked. The opening lyrics to his song say:
Dancing in the flames
The people cursed his name
Bowed at the altar
Of the Father of Lies
There’s a number to their days
And all their evil ways
The Lord’s gonna turn away
From all their cries
“What that’s talking about is when you watch the Super Bowl halftime show or you watch the Grammy Awards or you watch some of these big concerts and music videos where they are putting satanic symbolism right in your face,” Rich explained, “they are practicing witchcraft on the stage…somebody has to counter that.”
Other examples of satanic symbolism according to Rich include the singles from Eminem’s album, as well as the work of rapper Lil Nas X, who has a music video where he gives Satan a lap dance. Rich wanted his music video, which depicts a showdown between Satan and Michael the Archangel to “compete visually” with the dramatic satanic visuals people are seeing elsewhere.
Carlson observed that Rich was not claiming the media is pushing a liberal agenda but is actually claiming that media is “pushing a theology” on viewers. Rich agreed “100%.”
