On Sunday, Feb. 16, Easton gave his congregation an update on the Shroyers’ situation prior to preaching the sermon that morning. The pastor mentioned Beau’s murder and the fact that Jackie was a suspect in it, and he noted that it had been a few months since the church had provided any updates about the situation.
“This is an important thing to tell you,” said Easton. “Since Beau’s murder and Jackie’s arrest, there has been a thorough investigation taking place to uncover the truth around what really happened on Oct. 25 to Beau, ok?”
“And many entities have been involved in that investigation,” he said, “including the U.S. Embassy, to ensure uncorrupted justice for Beau…and also to ensure that Jackie would receive quality care and proper legal representation.”
At the time of his Feb. 16 update, Easton did not have any new information about the results of the investigation but said he expected to have an update soon because the investigation was complete. He told congregants that Jackie was in prison in Angola and that she would remain there pending “the next step in the legal process.”
“It’s important that you know that while she’s been there, she has been receiving quality care, food and provisions and different things like that from the SIM staff that’s on the ground there, which is the missionary sending organization that they partnered with in Angola,” said Easton. “She’s also been able to have contact with her children at least once a week, at the bare minimum, through FaceTime and whatnot.”
Easton shared that a funeral and a burial service were held for Beau at the end of last year and that, at the present time, there are no plans to have an additional service for him.
“Lastly, just as far as updates go,” said the pastor, “those five beautiful children, they’ve been back in the States now since early November, and they’ve been slowly settling in with close family and receiving the very best care and attention from people they know and love well.”
“The people they are with are incredible human beings. You would be so relieved to know the type of care they’re getting,” said Easton. “They’re being homeschooled. They are involved in extracurricular activities. I think they’re also taking ski lessons.”
“They’re involved in a church where they live,” he added. “They’re slowly making friends and adjusting to life and their new reality, and outside of having recently battled influenza, all things considered, it sounds like the kids are doing ok.”
Easton said that those interested in supporting the children can do so at a link on the church’s website. The pastor promised to give an update on the murder investigation as soon as he had new information.
