Best recalled Campbell making the comment, “Kids will be kids,” in reference to what happened in Brewer’s hotel room. “[Campbell],” he told TRR, “definitely, in his language, alluded to his job as a tour manager is to clean things up or make things go away, and that he’s been doing that a long time.”

Steve Campbell told TRR that he resented “any implication that [he] would ever cover anything up” and denied saying any of what Best recalled.

Rape Test Determines Nicole Was Sexually Assaulted

At the tour’s next stop in Minnesota, Nicole left the tour and was taken to St. John’s Hospital, located just outside of St. Paul, Minnesota, where she completed a rape test that proved she had been sexually assaulted.

Best then accompanied Nicole to the Fargo Police Department to file a sexual assault report. Best told TRR that he felt the detective displayed an unwillingness to pursue Nicole’s allegations and recalled the officer saying, “Even if she had a rape kit, it’s not worth processing it because it’ll take three to six months.”

Nicole told TRR she never heard back from the detective.

Nicole desires that her story save others from the pain she has had to endure. “I’d love for the Newsboys to admit they were wrong [and] to at least stop them from hurting people behind closed doors.”
