Newsboys’ Management Respond to the Allegations

In response to a request for comment, Newsboys’ management issued a statement:

Thank you for sharing these very serious details with us and for giving us the opportunity to respond. As we were only afforded a short window to offer comment, we have not been able to get a full understanding from those named in the text as of yet to be able to give a full response. Last Thursday, June 12, 2025, management received for the first time a police report referencing some of the individuals you have contacted us about. This was the first time Newsboys management was made aware of any alleged criminal activity related to this incident in Fargo in 2014, but based on what we read, it sure appears that the tour producer was aware of this incident and to this date, has not shared anything about it with management. We are also not aware of the band’s record label or booking agent being told either. The facts of the report we have in possession are contradictory to some of the listed statements, but missing was the statement from the bartender (as referenced in the report) or any possible video evidence (also referenced in the report). We formally requested all of the related evidence from the Fargo Police Department earlier this week, and have yet to hear a reply, but if you care to share with us what you have received, we would welcome that so we have a full account. Nevertheless, we already have launched an immediate investigation to understand what happened during these off-days more than 10 years ago, and to take necessary action against anyone who is currently affiliated with the Newsboys who proves to have been involved. Regarding the very serious allegations and statements attributed to Steve Campbell, we contacted him this morning. He says he has not heard from you and has denied the statements attributed to him. While Mr. Campbell is not a member of the band’s management, he is paid to oversee the crew, and his participation as referenced by you will need to be further investigated. This is an egregious scenario that we take very seriously, and we will address it at every level. Again, thank you.

Matt Brewer Responds to the Allegations

Matt Brewer told TRR that he was “genuinely shocked” by the content of the police report, but he pointed out that the report says that “the interaction [he] had that night was between two consenting adults.”

“At no point did she raise any concern or indicate that something inappropriate had occurred,” he continued. “If she had, I would have taken that seriously and addressed it directly.”

He told TRR, “I was not involved in any misconduct, and I respectfully ask that I not be connected to allegations that have nothing to do with me.”

Brewer’s Instagram shows that he continued working for Newsboys during the band’s subsequent tour. He is currently working for Lumina Productions, which is owned by Daniel Smallbone. The company is known for their lighting and design work on for KING + COUNTRY tours.

Newsboys Dropped by Record Label

On June 22, Newsboys’ new frontman, Adam Agee, told Elevate Music Festival concertgoers that the band had been dropped by its record label, Capitol Christian Music Group.

In the last six months, Agee said that Newsboys has played “everywhere, from New York to Florida to California to right here in Arizona.” Agee added, “We have seen the most amazing people in the most amazing crowds, and we’ve seen the Spirit do things that have been been so encouraging. And we’ve just had the best time as a band with you guys on the road.”

“And then a couple of weeks ago,” Agee continued as he became emotional, “our world was rocked by the devastating news about [Tait’s] confession and what [his] double-life really was.”

As he continued, Agee held back tears as he shared that “our families have felt like our names [have] just been dragged through the mud because of all this, and it’s really, really hurt our kids.”

“As a result of all this and the things that have come out that he’s done and he’s confessed to, we’ve been dropped from our record label,” Agee said. “We’ve had radio stations pull our music. We’ve been cancelled by promoters and venues all over the world.”
