“Half my feed is about Christian celebrities compromising to the world and the grief it caused to see it,” said Troy Frasier, co-creator of Revived Studios and co-host of Revived Thoughts. “And the other half is about the glory soon to be had for a saint who is finishing his race well. The contrast is clear and I know which one I want to be like.”
Author Chris Hohnholz published an article titled, “A Tale of Two Christians,” focused specifically on John MacArthur and Chip Gaines. “This is the fruit of the modern evangelical practice of cultural Christianity,” wrote Hohnholz of Chip Gaines’ response to critics. “Rather than seeking to conform itself to Christ, this practice encourages people to be followers of Christ with little to no call for obedience to His commandments.”
In contrast, said Hohnholz, “MacArthur endured much slander and attacks on his name and his church because he viewed the cause of Christ to be of higher value than any celebrity status he might gain through compromise.”
Others continued to focus on explaining why they believe the Gaines are failing in their Christian witness. Stuckey released an episode of her “Relatable” podcast titled, “Chip & Joanna Gaines Go All In On Gay Marriage.”
In it, she drew attention to Hanna’s comment about the flyer featuring a gay couple. “That means from the get-go, they were trying—Magnolia Network along with HBO—they were trying to attract a gay couple,” she said.
Live Action’s Lila Rose agreed with many others that the Gaines are capitulating to the culture. “I hope that Chip and Joanna Gaines rethink how they approach entertainment and the projects that they pursue,” she said.

Conservative political commentator Michael Knowles commented on the situation as well, critiquing Chip Gaines for compromising Christian values. Disgraced pastor Mark Driscoll released a video titled, “Mark Driscoll Rebukes Chip Gaines.”
Center for Baptist Leadership Executive Director William Wolfe appeared on “The Absolute Truth With Emerald Robinson” on Mike Lindell’s Media Network, where he said “we have gone from Sodom and Gomorrah to Shiplap and Gomorrah.”
The Babylon Bee published a post titled, “Chip & Joanna Gaines Introduce New Line Of Pride-Themed Shiplap.”
“The backlash against Chip and Joanna Gaines proves yet again that the hardest thing for christians to do is actually behave like Christ,” said actor and broadcaster Jody Dean.
“WHY ARE WE, AS CHRISTIANS, WATERING DOWN OUR BELIEFS JUST TO BLEND IN WITH THE WORLD?” said activist and Pastor John K. Amanchukwu Sr.
