“Our family would deeply appreciate your prayers at this time,” she said. “Chuck had hoped to share some parting words with you all, but he’s too weak right now. I know he would want you to know that serving the Lord, and each of you, through his music has been the greatest honor of his life.”

“Thank you for the continued love, support, and prayers,” she said. “It means the world.”

Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California, posted a tribute to Girard on social media. Laurie’s story of coming to trust in Jesus during the Jesus Movement of the 1960s and 1970s was featured in the 2023 movie, “Jesus Revolution.”

The film dramatizes the true story of how Calvary Chapel Pastor Chuck Smith teamed up with hippie evangelist Lonnie Frisbee to reach young people for Jesus. Love Song, which is portrayed in the movie, played for Smith’s church.

“Chuck Girard was a true pioneer of what we now call Contemporary Christian Music—though in his day, it was simply known as ‘Jesus Music,’” said Laurie. “With soaring vocals and brilliant songwriting, Chuck’s music touched millions.”

“I had the privilege of knowing him personally and working alongside him—both as a solo artist and with his groundbreaking band, Love Song—many times,” the pastor said. “He deeply loved the Lord and was used mightily by God to bring countless people into His kingdom. Chuck is now in Heaven, but the songs and the legacy he leaves behind will continue to inspire hearts for generations to come.”
