Helfenbein continued:
He was instrumental not only in establishing Focus on the Family @FocusFamily as a major powerhouse for counseling resources, educational programming and media, but also raising up thousands of conservative leaders who would advance the Gospel and God’s design for marriage both in church and the public square. I once had the privilege of meeting Dr. Dobson at a board retreat many years ago. He was always a man of deep uncompromising conviction and heartfelt compassion for those he sought to reach, help and heal.
“We will miss him dearly. May God raise up more leaders in this next generation,” Helfenbein added.
Pastor Travis Johnson said that Dobson “was in the fight for the family before many pastors. In fact, he gave us much language and insight to arm and equip fathers and mothers in our churches to raise godly families.” Johnson added, ”And, for me, before I was a pastor, I was the beneficiary of those resources by way of my parents who were also a pastoral family. James Dobson is a giant in the faith. And today, he has received his reward.”
“It is hard to [overestimate] Dr Dobson’s influence. Several generations of families were helped by his parenting wisdom,” said Daniel Darling, the director of the Land Center for Cultural Engagement at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and assistant professor of faith and culture at Texas Baptist College.
Author and theologian Owen Strachan posted, “Saddened by the death of Dr. Dobson. He was a lion in the public square for the family, and a voice of moral wisdom in a culture determined to abandon it. Praying now for his family and for JDFI [Dr. James Dobson Family Institute].”
