“Few people have had the positive, Christ-honoring impact on the family as Dr. Jim Dobson; his legacy will be lasting,” Family Research Counsel (FRC) President Tony Perkins posted. “My parents used his instructions to shape our home as a family of new Christians, and I then had the privilege of working alongside him to protect marriage and family after he was a part of bringing me to FRC 22 years ago this week.”
Perkins added, “Dr. Dobson will be missed, but like other influential Christian leaders of his era, he has raised many more in his wake. Lawana and I extend our sympathy and prayers to Shirley and the Dobson family.”
Executive Director of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) Charlie Kirk posted, “Another legend goes home. Dr Dobson had a remarkable career, and he finished well. Was a great honor to call him a friend.”
Kirk continued his post by acknowledging how Dobson “stood against gay marriage, pornography, abortion, and for family values even when it was very difficult. He built a movement of tens of millions of people to stand for biblical values.” Kirk added, “I grew up listening to him on radio. God bless you Dr Dobson, and thank you for the enormous contribution to our nation.”
Pastor Greg Laurie said, “@DrJamesCDobson has gone to Heaven at the age of 89. I knew James very well, and I can tell you he was a true man of God who lived a life of integrity.”
“I’ll never forget that after our son Christopher went to Heaven 17 years ago, Dr. Dobson personally called us and spent a great deal of time ministering to our whole family,” Laurie shared. “Over the years I had the privilege of interviewing him many times, including once at a Harvest Crusade, and he also interviewed me on his radio program. We went on a trip to Israel together, as well as to the White House on more than one occasion.”
“He and his devoted wife Shirley shared such a beautiful marriage—one that we would all aspire to. His life and ministry touched millions as he faithfully taught us how to build godly families,” Laurie said. “He was a legend, a treasure to the Church, and he will be greatly missed.”
Martin Luther King Jr.’s niece, Alveda C. King, shared, “Dr. James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, made a lasting impact on the world. A man of faith, conviction, and courage—he finished the race well. His legacy of defending family and faith will continue to inspire generations.”
Ryan Helfenbein, Liberty University’s vice president of communications and public engagement and the executive director of Liberty’s Standing for Freedom Center, called Dobson one of “most influential voices on marriage, family, and life.”
“The evangelical world mourns the loss of another great titan in ministry,” Helfenbein said. “Dr. James Dobson @DrJamesCDobson was one of the most influential voices on marriage, family and life for over 50 years.”
