Nearly two weeks after having hip replacement surgery, Pastor Greg Laurie told his social media followers that the surgery was “100% successful.” On Monday, Sept. 1, Laurie posted an update, thanking people again for their prayers.
“A lot of people talk down on prayer these days, but I’ve never been more thankful for it,” Laurie said. “While I was recovering from hip surgery, so many of you were praying for me—and I want you to know those prayers were answered! The surgery was 100% successful. God is good! 🙏 Here’s a little update…

Greg Laurie: ‘I’m Healing Up, and I’m Walking’
Greg Laurie is pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California. On Tuesday, Aug. 19, he had hip replacement surgery that he described as “long overdue. I’ve been in pain for quite a while and kept putting it off.”
The pastor shared in a video clip that the pain was impacting his right leg and joked about how he had come to enjoy using a cane. Laurie posted a video to his social media the morning of Aug. 19, requesting prayer for that day’s surgery.
He let his followers know that his wife, Cathe, and his son, Jonathan, would give people updates about how the surgery had gone. Later that day, Cathe and Jonathan did post an update letting people know the surgery had gone quickly and well.
In an update Aug. 20, Laurie shared that “from the moment I walked into the hospital, God surrounded me with believers—the receptionist, the nurses, even my doctor, who asked me to pray for him before his surgeries that day.”
“My anesthesiologist was also a Christian,” he said. “What a blessing!”
On Aug. 24, Laurie let people know that his recovery was going well. “Thanks to God’s healing touch and your prayers,” he said, “I’m up and walking a bit and getting stronger every day.”
Laurie said he was “not quite ready to head back out and preach just yet,” so his “good friend, Pastor James Merritt” would be preaching in his stead that day. On Aug. 30, Laurie told his social media followers that his “recovery from hip surgery is going really well—I’m actually ahead of schedule, thank God!”
