“The Bible says…‘God so loved the world that whoever believes in the Son will not perish but have eternal life,’” Perry said, quoting John 3:16. “And so, [‘Gay Girl, Good God’] is the story of God saving me…but God not only saves, he also sanctifies.”

Perry explained the concept of “sanctification,” saying, “So once you repent, once you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, he fills you with the Holy Ghost and therein begins what we call ‘progressive sanctification.’”
“Get that word in your spirit,” she said. “That is the process where God is conforming you into the image of his Son.”
“And so, yes, you might still struggle with envy,” Perry acknowledged, “but you keep leaning into the Lord, and that envy gonna loosen up its grip a little bit more.”
“The difference between the Christian and the non-Christian is not that they are not tempted,” said Perry. “The difference between the Christian and the non-Christian is that they are loosed from the power of sin and therefore they have the power now and the desire now to say no to the things they used to be a slave to. Hello, somebody.”
“[‘Gay Girl, Good God’] was just written for me to exalt what God can do when you say yes and to give empathy to those who do not understand what it is like to struggle with these struggles but still want to walk alongside people in love,” Perry said, concluding by encouraging people to read Romans 1-7.
