President Donald Trump, one of the first to announce the news that Kirk had passed away, posted a video tribute on X, describing Kirk’s murder as a “heinous assassination” and calling Kirk a “martyr for truth and freedom.” Trump has announced that he will posthumously award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
“Charlie was also a man of deep, deep faith,” said Trump, “and we take comfort in the knowledge that he is now at peace with God in heaven.”
“Our prayers are with his wife, Erika, their two young, beloved children, and his entire family who he loved more than anything in the world,” Trump said. “We ask God to watch over them in this terrible hour of heartache and pain.”
“Charlie’s children will be raised with stories instead of memories, photographs instead of laughter, and silence where their father’s voice should have echoed,” said First Lady Melania Trump. “Charlie Kirk’s life should serve as a symbolic reminder that compassionate awareness elevates family, love, and country.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt posted about how Kirk supported her run for Congress. “Charlie positively changed the course of American history, and his legacy will live on,” she said. “I am praying that God covers Charlie’s wife, Erika, and their two beautiful children in His love. I pray they are comforted knowing Charlie is in Heaven with the Lord.” She concluded by posting John 11:25-26.
Former President Barack Obama posted, “We don’t yet know what motivated the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk, but this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy. A lion-hearted friend of Israel, he fought the lies and stood tall for Judeo-Christian civilization. I spoke to him only two weeks ago and invited him to Israel. Sadly, that visit will not take place.”
“We lost an incredible human being,” said Netanyahu. “His boundless pride in America and his valiant belief in free speech will leave a lasting impact. Rest in peace, Charlie Kirk.”
