One week after leading thousands of people in worship at the memorial service for Charlie Kirk, and millions more watching around the world, Phil Wickham reflected on the experience.

“Some late night thoughts I wanted to share,” Wickham wrote next to his social media video posted Sunday, Sept. 28. “I’m so thankful to know the hope and peace of Jesus. All I want to do is share Him with others.”

“The darkness of this world has been undeniable these past few weeks. It’s devastating to see,” he continued. “But the light of Jesus is shining brighter in His church than I have ever seen in my life time. God is moving in powerful ways and I’m thankful to be a part of it and a witness of it.”

Wickham encouraged his 2 million Instagram followers to treat every day as a “gift” and told them that he wants to live “getting ready for heaven and bringing as many people with me.”

In his video, Wickham reflected on the opportunity he and his friends, Brandon Lake, Kari Jobe, Cody Carnes, and Chris Tomlin, were given to lead worship. “Two hours of uninterrupted full-on Jesus-lifted-high worship, saying, ‘Christ is King,’ preaching the gospel,” he said.

“It was so beautiful and felt so holy,” Wickham shared. “I can’t remember a time that I felt the presence of God weigh on me like that. It was just incredible.”

The award-winning singer said that he was “so blessed” and “moved” by Kirk’s family choosing to honor Charlie and the Lord by starting the memorial service with worship. They gave the “first two hours to Jesus and then it went right into a gospel presentation where, like, the full non-watered-down gospel—like the full gospel—was preached.”

Wickham went on to describe what happened, saying, “You guys, atonement and blood of the Lamb and the cross and the empty grave and that we need to repent and call in the name of Jesus, and [a] salvation offering was given, like for people to stand up.”

Like Wickham, ChurchLeaders witnessed many people throughout the stadium stand to acknowledge that they just gave their lives to Jesus.

“I got so many messages over this week about how people tuned in and watched and gave their lives to Jesus and never felt closer to God before and want to start going to church,” Wickham added. “It’s just been beautiful.”
