After nearly 30 years of ministry, the Skit Guys as a performing duo are coming to an end due to the resignation of cofounder Eddie James.

James’ comedy partner and ministry cofounder, Tommy Woodard, shared a video explaining the launch of a new creative organization called 231 Collective. In a detailed public statement, Woodard explained, “The primary catalyst behind these changes is that Eddie James, cofounder of Skit Guys, had to resign from our ministry based on choices he made, which all of us, including Eddie, agree were not in line with our ministry, our calling, or God’s Word.”

“We are not sharing specific details, other than to say that Eddie had to step away from our ministry after he revealed choices he had made leading to a violation of our ministry’s standards and God’s requirements for marriage and ministry,” the statement continued.

“Scripture is clear that leaders are called to live above reproach (1 Timothy 3:1-7), and we hold our ministry leaders to that high standard,” said the statement. “We all fall short of God’s standards, and we have remained supportive of Eddie and his family and are respecting their privacy.”

“This has been a deeply painful season for [Eddie’s family],” the statement added. “We continue to pray for healing and God’s grace over their family. We ask that you do the same and also respect their privacy.”

The Skit Guys acknowledged that the situation has deeply affected the longtime friendship between Tommy and Eddie, though both are working toward forgiveness and restoration.

“This situation has taken an immeasurable toll on a lifelong friendship,” the statement reads. “Both of them are processing this on their own terms and in their own ways, working their way along the path toward healing and forgiveness. Please pray for both of them as they heal.”
