Focus on the Family, the ministry Dobson founded in 1977, posted on social media, “Today we remember a hero of the faith. Our Founder, Dr. James C. Dobson, passed away this morning.”
“Although, we’re sorrowful over this loss, we are thankful for his legacy of family ministry that will live on for future generations, and rejoice that he is now in the presence of our Savior,” Dobson’s former ministry added.
Evangelist Franklin Graham described Dobson as a “staunch defender of the family.”
“Our prayers are with the family of Dr. James Dobson, who went home to be with his Savior today after a brief illness,” Graham posted. “Dr. Dobson was a staunch defender of the family and stood for morality and Biblical values as much as any person in our country’s history.”
“For nearly five decades, he was one of the most influential Christian leaders in our country who saw the importance of faith in culture,” Graham continued. “He founded Focus on the Family in 1977, and after leaving that ministry, he then launched the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute. Dr. Dobson’s Family Talk radio program is heard by over half a million people each week.”
Graham concluded, “His legacy and impact for Jesus Christ will continue on for generations. I’m sure his wife Shirley and their children would appreciate your prayers.”
Former Vice President Mike Pence shared that he and his wife were saddened by the news of Dobson’s passing.
