As Christian author and speaker Dr. Christopher Yuan continues to recover from a severe spinal injury, his progress is “exceeding expectations,” according to a recent update.

Yuan is the author of several books, including “Holy Sexuality and the Gospel: Sex, Desire, and Relationships Shaped by God’s Grand Story” and “Out of a Far Country: A Gay Son’s Journey to God. A Broken Mother’s Search for Hope.”

Last month, Yuan suffered a severe accident while using an inversion table. When the accident occurred, Yuan lost function of his limbs and was paralyzed from the neck down.

Following a successful surgery, Yuan regained sensation in his arms and legs. An update said that Yuan would undergo inpatient rehabilitation for two to four weeks, followed by outpatient rehab for four to six months.

Throughout his stay at the hospital, Yuan’s team has been posting regular updates regarding his physical recovery. In one update, it was apparent that Yuan’s injury had not quelled his passion for evangelism but rather provided a unique opportunity for it.

The update given on Sept. 29 recounted Yuan’s interactions with a man named David, who was also spending time in the ICU.

“In the middle of the night—around 2:00 a.m.—Christopher began sharing his testimony and the good news of Jesus with his suite mate,” the update read. David was described as asking “thoughtful questions” in a conversation that spanned several hours.

The update continued, “By 5:00 a.m., David’s heart was ready. There in the ICU, he surrendered his life to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior! A nurse was present the entire time and witnessed this sacred moment.”

The encounter was a “precious reminder that even in suffering, God is sovereign and His purposes prevail.”
