After Grammy Awards host Trevor Noah took a jab at rapper Nicki Minaj over her support for President Donald Trump, Minaj responded on X by making a derogatory comment about Noah’s sexuality, blessing the name of Jesus, and saying God would defend her.

“As they do their ritual tonight, God almighty will reveal himself to them. The ritual will backfire on them. God will not be mocked,” Minaj said in a post the evening of Sunday, Feb. 1. “Blessed is the MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS CHRIST. Every tongue that rises up against me in judgement shall be condemned & put to shame. Watch.”

In a post earlier that evening but after the start of the Grammy Awards, Minaj said, “Trevor refuses to come out the closet when everyone in the industry knows his boyfriend. Allegedly.” Included in the post were photos of Jay-Z.

Nicki Minaj Speaks Out on Christian Persecution in Nigeria

Nicki Minaj is one of the best-selling artists and female rappers of all time. Her lyrics are often sexually explicit and at times extremely vulgar, as are some of her comments on social media. She has recently become outspoken on violence suffered by Nigerian Christians. Some of her social media posts on the topic have been framed as prayers to God in Jesus’ name.

Open Doors, an organization that supports persecuted Christians, annually ranks the top 50 countries in the world according to the severity with which Christians are persecuted in each. Nigeria was ranked No. 7 in Open Doors’ 2026 World Watch List. Nigeria’s government has denied there being a targeted persecution of a religious group in the country.

Other leaders who have recently spoken out about the issue include Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and commentator Bill Maher. At the end of October, Trump announced he was designating Nigeria a “country of particular concern.” He also directed Congressman Riley Moore and Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee “to immediately look into this matter, and report back to me.”

In November, Minaj spoke at an event hosted by the United States Mission to the United Nations in New York City. Her speech was titled “Combating Religious Violence and the Killing of Christians in Nigeria.” In her speech, she thanked Trump for giving attention to the issue.

A delegation from the House Appropriations Committee later conducted an “on-the-ground fact-finding mission to examine alarming anti-Christian violence and religious persecution” in Nigeria. On Christmas Day, Trump said the U.S. had launched a strike on ISIS in the country. “May God Bless our Military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead Terrorists,” he said, “of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues.”
