The two gave several pieces of advice about entering new seasons well, including writing down what God teaches in one season in order to remember those lessons for the next. Another point was the importance of trusting God and his direction in each season. Priscilla said it was important to hold our expectations and our pasts “loosely.” If we don’t, it will hurt when God pries our fingers open.
JC related the conversation to how the Israelites failed to trust God after being freed from Egypt, despite everything God had done for them.
“I think that’s huge for me,” he said, “is remembering…remembering God has done this, done this, and remembering how big of a deal it was then.”
When people are “removed” from a situation, “you forget all the emotions that were attached and how hard it was going through it or whatever. You just remember, ‘Oh yeah, God helped me with that situation,’” said JC.
“I’m not going to say that this has happened to me before,” he said, “but I have an example that some people may relate to. And I’m so sorry, Mom. But when you’re drunk…”
“Is this a personal illustration?” Priscilla asked.
“Maybe it is. Maybe it’s not,” he said.
“It is,” she said. “It’s a personal illustration. Should I tell them how I know it’s a personal illustration?”
“This wasn’t the time that I was talking about,” he protested. “That wasn’t the time.”
“First of all,” Priscilla said, “you told on yourself just then when you said this wasn’t the time I was talking about.” She went on to tell viewers then that her family is “regular” and that JC had come home “wasted” twice.

JC’s mother said she was giving him “a little bit of a break” for one of those times because JC had drunk very little alcohol, but what he did drink was from an unmarked bottle. Based on how inebriated he got from that, JC thinks it must have had “99% proof” liquor in it.
“You know, we’ve told these kids…don’t drink nothing that is not marked,” said Priscilla, adding that she thought at the time she might have to take JC to the hospital for alcohol poisoning.
“I mean he could not function. It was terrible,” she said. “So to your defense on that one, I think that you did something unwise, but it wasn’t like you were just sitting there drinking a whole bunch of stuff. Did you tell me the truth about that?”
“Sure,” he said. “I think so. I don’t remember.”
“You don’t remember that?” she asked.
“I’m trying to remember how much I drunk,” said JC.
“‘Cause you were blacked out, basically,” she said. “And then he did it again another time where he was just being dumb and had two little shots or something like that.”
