Allyson described her father as a dad who was always there when she or her sister needed anything. “You call, he would answer, and he would do whatever it is you needed, and if he didn’t know how he would figure out how.” She shared that her dad could “make friends with anyone,” something he was doing at the rally all day and “loved every minute of it.”

“He was a man of God, loved Jesus fiercely, and also looked after our church and our members as family,” Comperatore’s daughter said.

She continued her post by reliving how her dad’s selfless act saved their lives from the sniper’s gunfire. “He died a real-life super hero. [Media outlets] are not going to tell you how quickly he threw my mom and I to the ground. They are not going to tell you that he shielded my body from the bullet that came at us.”

“He truly loved us enough to take a real bullet for us. And I want nothing more than to cry on him and tell him thank you,” she added. “I want nothing more than to wake up and for this to not be reality for me and my family…will never stop thinking about him and mourning over him until the day that I die too.”

Allyson said, “There are a lot of children out there that say their dad is their hero, but my dad really is mine. I don’t think I would be here today without him.” She then concluded by expressing how much she loves her dad and that she knows that “God is proud of the man that came to His gates yesterday.”

Comperatore’s sister, Dawn, echoed Helen and Allyson’s “hero” sentiment and also said that “the hatred for one man took the life of the one man we loved the most.”

“Hatred has no limits and love has no bounds,” she said and then continued by asking that people “pray for my sister-in-law, nieces, my mother, sister, me and his nieces and nephews as this feels like a terrible nightmare but we know it is our painful reality.”
