Lysa TerKeurst has spent years publicly walking through heartbreak, betrayal, cancer, divorce, and healing. Now, in one of her most candid conversations yet, she and new husband Chaz Adams are opening up about what it actually took to rebuild trust and find love again after deep personal loss.

During an October 2024 livestream, the couple answered questions followers have been asking since their January 2024 wedding in the French Alps. The conversation touched on everything from addiction recovery and emotional triggers to dating after divorce and learning how to feel safe in a relationship again.

TerKeurst’s journey has unfolded publicly for years: a painful divorce after nearly three decades of marriage, a breast cancer diagnosis, and a long season of rebuilding emotionally and spiritually. Now married to Adams, she says her understanding of redemption looks different than it once did.

“I thought the only pathway to redemption was for my first marriage to survive,” TerKeurst said. “God has me on a path of redemption, but reconciliation wasn’t part of it, and yet I’m still living a redemption story.”

Who Is Chaz Adams, Lysa TerKeurst’s Husband?

Chaz Adams grew up in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and earned a finance degree from the University of Central Florida. In 1996, he founded CMA Insurance and Financial Services — a group health insurance firm he still runs today, now celebrating nearly three decades in business. He has two adult children, Leah and Michael.

Adams is also a person of faith with a ministry background. He has been involved with The Legacy Coalition, a non-profit organization focused on supporting families and communities in faith. His path to faith, however, was not without significant struggle.

At the time he began attending Alcoholics Anonymous, Adams was navigating what he described as the two hardest events of his life: the reality that his first marriage was ending, and the death of his younger brother at age 39 — who had also struggled with alcohol addiction.

‘I was on a path of trusting what I called my higher power,’ Adams said during the livestream, ‘and I really didn’t know if I wanted to with those two events, but I chose to.’

After more than a decade of sobriety and spiritual growth, Adams went from describing God as a vague ‘higher power’ to having what he calls a personal relationship with Jesus Christ — a shift he says deepened as his faith community and his daughter invited him into a church he made his own.
