The academy had no structured courses and no certified instructors, according to the lawsuit. Staff members had “no credentials, no oversight, and, in some cases, deeply questionable backgrounds.” CHA was “a place of control, fear and unchecked abuse,” the plaintiff alleged.
Jane Doe #2 cited two incidents of inappropriate sexual touching by John-Paul Miller, claiming he touched her underneath her clothes both times. John-Paul—then 19 and serving as her teacher—asked the 14-year-old whether she liked him and whether she had a boyfriend, she alleged.
After reporting the first incident of sexual assault to another teacher, Jane Doe #2 said she was sent to Reginald Wayne Miller’s office, where John-Paul was waiting. The plaintiff alleged that the elder Miller shouted, “You will not lie about my son,” and made the student write, “I will not lie about John-Paul Miller,” 5,000 times.
Jane Doe #2 Also Alleges Bullying, Psychological Abuse
Wednesday’s lawsuit is also filled with allegations about unrestrained bullying and psychological harm. Fellow students, with support from the Millers, allegedly inflicted “torment” on the plaintiff after she reported John-Paul. She described being called vile names, having her shirt ripped open, getting bug spray placed in her mouth and eyes, and being slapped and shoved. “Through it all, [John-Paul] was there, smirking, encouraging, watching,” according to the filing.

Meanwhile, Reginald Wayne Miller allegedly told the plaintiff to “stop disturbing the Lord’s work” and “repent for your lies.” The message to the teen was that “no one would protect her,” the suit stated.
When Jane Doe #2 was 16, she said she brought a “Harry Potter” book to CHA. The Millers called her “a servant of Satan” and said she would be “raped by demons.” In the school office, they lit the book on fire while Reginald Wayne Miller allegedly “beat her with a Bible and poured water over her head.”
According to both Jane Doe lawsuits, Reginald Wayne Miller and other church leaders knew about John-Paul’s inappropriate relationships with minors yet enabled his continued service.
Both lawsuits include affidavits from Alison Williams, ex-wife of John-Paul, and Susan Miller, ex-wife of Reginald Wayne. Williams claimed that John-Paul told her about his inappropriate sexual behavior with underage girls. She also said church officials had instructed him to seek treatment for sexual addiction.
In her affidavit, Susan Miller described how her ex-husband had “physically and emotionally abused his family and exercised absolute control over both his household and his church congregation.” According to the suit by Jane Doe #2, Susan said Reginald Wayne also “engaged in inappropriate relationships with young men and women, many of whom were vulnerable members of the congregation.”
