On Friday, June 27, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) upheld a Texas law that requires pornographic websites to verify users’ ages before allowing them to view adult content.
Justices Clarence Thomas, John G. Roberts Jr., Brett M. Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, Samuel A. Alito Jr., and Neil M. Gorsuch all agreed with upholding the Texas law, ruling that it is not a violation of First Amendment rights. Justices Elena Kagan, Ketanji Brown Jackson, and Sonia Sotomayor dissented, arguing that the law violates the First Amendment.
Joshua Broome, who was a star in the adult film industry for six years before coming to faith in Jesus, praised SCOTUS for the decision.
Today, Broome serves as the executive director of Walk Worthy, a new subdivision of the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC). He and his wife Hope have four children together.

Broome travels across the nation speaking about the dangers of pornography and how people can be rescued from porn addiction, which plagues both men and women, Christian and non-Christian alike.
“Texas’ verification law and other states who have similar laws have forced the popular porn site Pornhub to stop operating there,” Broome told ChurchLeaders. Broome explained that users must present a valid ID to gain access to an adult site.
Broome explained that Pornhub alone is a multibillion dollar industry. Nevertheless, in states like Louisiana, age verification laws have cause “porn use to drop by 80%.”
“The average age of person who has viewed pornography used to be 11. Today that age is 8,” Broome shared. “Pornography has been proven neurologically to harm children’s brains. It’s practically destructive to families and marriages and society at large.”

“The fact that it hasn’t already been regulated is negligent, but today is a step in the right direction,” he added.
“This isn’t just about kids. You see, porn is one of the leading causes of divorce,” said Broome. “It’s destroying trust, eroding marriages, and accelerating the crisis of fatherlessness, which is directly tied in an incredible predictor of addiction, incarceration, suicide, depression, and many more things.”
