Jonathan Cain Will Go ‘Separate Ways’ From Journey as He ‘Faithfully’ Answers God’s Call

Cain told Ultimate Classic Rock that doing ministry after the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene prompted him to write his newest, faith-centered music. 

“We were watching the reconstruction of this town, people who lost just about everything,” he said. “They were all working together, three feet of mud, nobody was whining or complaining or crying. It was all just, ‘Let’s get this done and support each other,’ just an incredible attitude.”

Cain thought, “This is a very moving moment,” and heard God say, “What are you gonna do about it? Write a song; I’ll give you a title—’Amen to the Rescue.’” 

“By the time we got home, I had it finished,” said Cain.

Journey’s farewell tour starts Feb. 28 and will go through 2027, according to Cain. Despite the tour being a farewell tour, guitarist Neal Schon would not directly answer in an interview with Rolling Stone whether the end of the tour was the end of the band. For Jonathan Cain, however, his time in Journey will end after the tour. 

Cain’s future plans include marketing his worship songs to churches, pursuing film scoring, and a talk show where he speaks to performers about their religious beliefs.
