“These are rumors because I don’t take girls back to my hotel room,” Kevin Max said. “When I was a single guy, I met up with a lot of females, absolutely, but as a married man, absolutely not.”

“I set very strict rules for myself when I’m on the road because of the fact that I know that I’m pretty normal when it comes to my male impulses and my male responses to females,” he added.

He continued, “Absolutely, I find females very intriguing. But not at all am I somebody that is about to screw up something that God has given me, you know? So those are rumors are not founded on truths.” The “What If I Stumble” singer added, “If somebody has a picture of me going into a hotel bedroom with somebody, then please throw it out there man! Let’s talk about it! You know? But absolutely not.”

At that time, Kevin Max told Rimmer he did not worry about rumors, instead saying, “I’m worried about my relationship with God, my relationship with my family and my career, which is moving further and further out of the reaches of the CCM scene.”

“But at the same time I really feel a calling to continue to relate to those people and allow them to listen to the music and make them feel a part of it, because that’s where I’ve come from,” he explained. “And I believe that Christians need to be challenged and loved on as well.”

In 2021, Kevin Max told his social media followers that he is an “exvangelical” who had been “deconstructing” for years.

“I’ve been deconstructing/Reconstructing/progressing/whatever you wish to call it for decades, I’ve been in the outsider/misfit/seeker club for a long time now,” he said. “Thank you for welcoming me in, but I’ve always been here.” He later posted, “Hello, my name is Kevin Max & I’m an #exvangelical.”

Last year, DC Talk cofounder and former Newsboys lead singer Michael Tait admitted to substance abuse and sexual misconduct.

“For some two decades I used and abused cocaine, consumed far too much alcohol, and, at times, touched men in an unwanted sensual way,” Tait said in a statement following allegations of sexual abuse.

Since his confession, multiple people have come forward alleging they are victims of Tait’s alleged sexual abuse. One sexual abuse survivor claimed that Tait drugged her and watched as Tait’s friend and former Newsboys’ crew member raped her.

ChurchLeaders has reached out to both Kevin Max and Candace Thompson for comment regarding their new marriage and will update if a response is received.
