The artist mentioned his appearance on Russell Brand‘s podcast, saying that he knew very little about the actor when he agreed to join Brand for a conversation. Comments on an announcement from Brand about their discussion showed Lecrae that “I was public enemy number one.”

“First of all, I had forgotten—because I’ve just been living my life following the Lord for the last eight years—I had forgotten that there were tribes and subsets of Christians that hate me,” he said. “Literally, I think they despise me.”

For example, some people accuse Lecrae of supporting abortion, even though he does not. The hip hop artist said that he has been public about the regret he feels for forcing a past girlfriend to get an abortion. “I hope I get to see my child in heaven,” he said. “I have not, I never will be okay with the sacrifice of human life for the benefit of people just being able to do what they want to do.”

However, he also thinks it is important to address the contexts that lead women to get abortions. “I fight and advocate for changing the social conditions that create this issue,” said Lecrae, “and people are mad at me because they say, ‘Well, that’s a leftist agenda.’ Listen, I could care less about what political affiliation you have. I care about the kingdom, and that’s a kingdom agenda.”

Another topic Lecrae receives criticism for was his decision in 2020 to rap at a political rally featuring Democrat Sen. Raphael Warnock, a pastor who supports abortion. “Did I rap at a political rally?” Lecrae asked. “I sure did. I sure did. Does that mean that I am some kind of radical leftist with all these agendas and that’s anti-biblical? It does not.”

Lecrae said he rapped one song at the rally, which he thought was bipartisan, and it was after he left that Warnock came out. “I don’t agree with his views,” said Lecrae. However, even if he did support Warnock as a candidate, that would not necessarily mean he agreed with all of Warnock’s views. “That’s too much nuance for people, though,” Lecrae said.

“Y’all want to talk about the parties, because I know people want to bring up the parties all the time,” Lecrae continued, referring to parties held by media mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs.

Combs is currently awaiting trial for charges that include sex trafficking, engaging in prostitution, and racketeering conspiracy. Police raided Combs’ mansion, where they said they found evidence of supplies used in “freak offs,” that is, orgies. Combs has pleaded not guilty to his charges.

“I’m the one that told you I was there,” said Lecrae, referring to a previous podcast episode where he told listeners that he had been to a couple of Combs’ parties and described his experiences at them.

“You didn’t find out from any other source,” Lecrae pointed out. “I told you I was at a party, but it wasn’t a freak off.”
