California Gov. Gavin Newsom has announced the creation of the “Patriot Shop,” which parodies various statements and items associated with President Trump, including the red “Make America Great Again” hat and the God Bless the U.S.A. Bible. Newsom has also been recently posting on X mimicking Trump’s phrasing and use of all capital letters.

“THE PATRIOT SHOP IS NOW OPEN!!!!” Newsom posted Aug. 24 with a series of American flag emojis. “MANY PEOPLE ARE SAYING THIS IS THE GREATEST MERCHANDISE EVER MADE. PLEASE ENJOY, AMERICA!”

Gavin Newsom’s Patriot Shop Parodies Trump Merch

Gavin Newsom is a Democrat who has served as the 40th governor of California since 2019. His online store features a red cap that says, “NEWSOM WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!,” and another that says, “REAL PATRIOT.” A tank top for sale says, “TRUMP IS NOT HOT.” One t-shirt on the site is called “The Chosen One” and features Newsom at the center surrounded by Tucker Carlson, Hulk Hogan, and Kid Rock.

The baseball caps obviously parody Trump’s MAGA hats. Earlier this year, Trump revealed a “TRUMP WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!” cap he said was sent by a fan, after which he commented, “We should make some.” The tank top is likely a reference to Taylor Swift, who recently got engaged. After Swift endorsed then-vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris last fall, Trump posted on Truth Social, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”

In early August, Trump said Swift was “NO LONGER HOT.” After Swift announced her engagement this week to the Chiefs’ Travis Kelce, Trump congratulated the couple. “I think he’s a great player,” said Trump. “I think he’s a great guy. And I think that she’s a terrific person. So I wish them a lot of luck.”

Trump has been repeatedly described in religious terms throughout his presidency, with some believing he has been anointed by God to lead the country. Some at times have even portrayed him as a messianic figure, a perspective Trump has not discouraged.

In early 2024, Trump shared a fan-made video that proclaimed, “God made Trump.” The video said that Trump “cares for the flock” and is “a shepherd to mankind who won’t ever leave or forsake them.” Following the attempt on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July 2024, Trump suggested that God spared his life to “save the world.” Tucker Carlson, Hulk Hogan (now deceased), and Kid Rock have all been outspoken supporters of the president.

Newsom’s store also features a Holy Bible, supposedly sold out. Trump has endorsed the God Bless the U.S.A. Bible, named for the song by Lee Greenwood.
