7. Damian Lillard
After 11 years with the Portland Trailblazers, seven-time NBA All Star point guard Damian Lillard is now with the Milwaukee Bucks. The 33-year-old, who’s seeking his first championship, said he’s been working to reconnect with his religious upbringing and with God’s Word.
Attending team chapel services, reading a Bible app on his phone, and staying in prayer are key for Lillard, known as Dame. “It’s important to give thanks, so I started actually getting on my knees and praying,” he told The Athletic in 2019. “Usually, you tell people all the time ‘I pray for you,’ or you send prayers and all that stuff and people don’t actually pray. I’m on my knees, just to let my posture show the true posture of my heart, because I’m really thankful. There’s real favor on my life.”
Lillard added, “We are going to have to answer to [God] one day…When that time comes, I really want to say I tried. And I really want to give thanks and really be into the Word. That’s why it’s definitely in my life much more now.”
